Corliss Hector MacLeod

Corliss Hector MacLeod, age 86 of Donkin, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully in the early morning of November 15th, 2024, at home with his loving wife, Dorothy at Park Place Manor in Aurora, Ontario. Corliss was born April 30th, 1938 in Donkin, son of the late Angus and Laula (Florence) MacLeod. Corliss had a love for travel and was able to enjoy his passion as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1955 to 1960 as a ship's electrician aboard the historic 'HMCS Haida'. He was then blessed to meet and marry the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Ransome on November 10th,1960. Corliss was introduced to Dorothy by his cousin Gordon MacLeod and from the moment they met, ...their love story began. Soon after they were married & while expecting their first of 3 children, Corliss travelled to Toronto to find work to support his beautiful wife and new family. Although he resided in Ontario for the remainder of his life, Cape Breton was always his home. Corliss was able to share his passion for travel with Dorothy during their 64 years of marriage with several cruises to the Caribbean & the Mediterranean as well as trips to Mexico, South America, California, Vancouver, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland where they created so many more wonderful memories. In addition to being a wonderful husband, Corliss was a devoted loving father and will be dearly missed by his three children and their spouse's, Kathy (Dave), Shane (Moira) and Heather (Don). As children, we will forever remember fondly our many weekend skating trips in the winter, swimming near the Bluffs in the summer-time along with so many family vacations to Nova Scotia. Survivors include his 9 grandchildren: Cory, Sean, Nicole (Anton), Kristina (Eric), Julia (Victor), Tyler (Sarah), Andrew, Mitchell (Nicole), Brendon (Karleigh) and his 8 great-grandchildren: Sara, Mackenzie, Annabelle, Alexa, Julian, Leonardo, Fionn and Isabel. The smile on his face during visits with his great-grandchildren would warm anyone's heart. Corliss was also predeceased by his 3 younger brothers, Dordie (George), Gary and Kenny. He leaves behind his beloved God-Daughter/Sister, Rosemary Howie (David) who he adored. He was also survived by many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He especially appreciated his daily phone conversations with his lifelong friend, Roger Howie. We're certain they indeed were the ones who wrote most scripts for their 'fav' TV show, 'Coronation Street'. We can't go further without thanking his long time friends from the Aurora Leisure Complex for their never-ending love and support through the years! Although some saw Corliss as a quiet man, he loved being in the presence of all those he loved. In addition, he also enjoyed cooking for the people he loved & those who loved him, spending many hours creating memorable meals for all to enjoy. Unknown to many, Corliss also had a passion for solving crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, Family Feud and various other game shows and took great pride in knowing the correct answers first. A big thank you to the entire staff of Park Place Manor for helping make our Father's final days comfortable and peaceful, along with our appreciation for the continued tenderness & support for our Mother, Dorothy. Also, a thank you to Dr. Amin, Nurse Roya and the Palliative Care team for their endless care. Go in Peace Dad, ...one day we will meet again. As Frank Sinatra sang, 'I did it my way', Dad, you definitely lived and loved life 'your way'.
