Mr. Douglas Anthony Nixon

In Loving Memory . . . August 16, 1954 – February 26, 2017 Doug Nixon passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at St. Mary’s hospital at the age of 62. He was surrounded by his loving family. He will be sadly missed by so many. Doug was born in Denbigh, Wales. At the age of 5 the family imigrated to Canada in July 1959. Doug is predeceased by his parents; George and Alice Nixon, brother Colin, sister Sheila, and sister in law Sandra. Doug and Christine had a deep love for one another and were happily married for 15 years and enjoyed countless good times together. Doug was always telling jokes and was never seen without a smile on his face! They enjoyed a full life of boating at Fifty Point, travelling and their new hobby of going for rides on their motorcycle together. Most recently their Westcoast road trip with their best friends John & Fran Brunskill was a major highlight, a trip of a lifetime. Doug was a passionate man who enjoyed living life to its fullest. His desire for flying started at an early age of 15 while living around St. Thomas airport, there is where he fell in love with flying. He was one of the youngest to get his pilot’s license at the time. His flying career consisted of instructing new pilots, flying for air ambulance and ending with 26 years as a regional airline pilot with Air Canada Jazz, truly earning his Captain stripes! He flew many different types of airplanes consisting of single engine piston airplanes to multi engine jets. During retirement, he enjoyed flying remote controlled aircraft at a club nearby. Doug enjoyed playing the guitar and jamming with his children and others. One of his favorite stories was when he jammed with the very young Justin Beiber. Also somewhere out there are copies of a recording of 'Summer in the City' and 'Under the Boardwalk' where Douglas, Rob his son and Derrick his nephew are singing and playing together. Doug loved playing music for everyone and also enjoyed playing in bands in his younger days. Always with a smile on his face nothing made him more happy than when he was with his family. From family ski trips in the Rockies to relaxing times by the fire at home and everything in between. Family was what made him most proud. Doug's commitment to his children were a big part of his life. The time he was able to spend with his grandchildren, children and his wife are the moments that will live on forever. Doug was so proud of all his 4 children (Robert, Jennifer, Jason & Candice) and his 2 step children (Carey & Kelly) and had always wanted them to be all together at one time; his wish was finally fulfilled in the hospital before he passed. On the last nights in the hospital Christine barely left his side; sleeping with him in his hospital bed. A nurse came in and asked Doug “Oh who is this you have here?” and he proudly said with a huge smile “it’s the love of my life!” A true mark of a man and his love! ('All you need is Love'- Beatle's) Thats what he gave to all. He is survived by his loving wife Christine Nixon; brother John Nixon (Barbara); son Robert (Enrica); son Jason; granddaughter Kylee; daughter Jennifer (Peter); grandson Samuel; granddaughters, Gianna and Teresa; daughter Candice (Andre); step daughter Carey (David); granddaughters Kura and Jayda; step daughter Kelly (Ross); grandson Kyran and granddaughter Tianna; and nieces and nephews. We have lost a very special person and will hold close the fond memories we all had the privilege to share with Doug. A Celebration of Life has been arranged for Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 1-4pm at 399 Head Street, Strathroy, Ontario.
