Du Hui Fang (Helen) Lee

We are deeply saddened by the passing of 杜慧芳 Du Hui Fang (Helen) Lee. She demonstrated an extraordinary amount of strength and grit throughout her life, even at the very end in a courageous battle with cancer. On March 22, 2023, she passed away in her sleep at Mississauga Trillium Hospital. We look for solace at the end of her suffering and mourn the loss of an unforgettable spirit. Du Hui Fang was born on December 10, 1944 in Kwangtung China, the eldest of six. She grew up in Taiwan and was one of the few women at the time to earn a university degree. She worked as a teacher, before starting a family. In 1977 she immigrated to Canada with her husband, Thomas Shih Chang Lee, and four children, Wilfred, Penny, Linda, and Betty. She worked many jobs, the longest as a catering chef, until she retired. She was an honest, skillful, industrious, and dedicated person. Du Hui Fang enjoyed spending time in the garden and planted many flowers that flourished under her care. Some of the little things that she adored include: babies, the scent of jasmine, luxurious items, and a well-delivered dry joke. Du Hui Fang leaves us as a devoted mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend. She gave so much and asked for so little. She was a force of nature and there was nobody quite like her. We wish her peace and send her love. May she have a safe journey to paradise 山天堂. We will respect her request for no service. One of her last wishes was for everyone to stay safe and keep good health. A memorial cherry tree was planted for Du Hui Fang Helen Lee in her honour at Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens. Everyone is welcome to visit Mrs. Lee's memorial, year round during park hours. The garden is an accessible park in the City of Mississauga along the Waterfront Trail. Free public parking, trails, and washrooms on site. The cherry tree typically blossoms in April to early May. It is situated near flower beds of roses and peonies, and it is a beautiful place to visit through the summer months. To locate the tree, look for the bronze plaque in the ground, southeast of the parking lot and south of the washrooms.
