Mrs. Gerhilde (Hilde) Muckle (nee Hirsch)

April 6, 1936 – January 4, 2017 It is with deep sadness that Hilde’s husband, Bob Grunow, announces the sudden passing of his beloved Hilde. She will be missed by so many, but none so much as her adoring husband Bob and her three daughters. Hilde was a treasured mother to her daughters and a devoted ‘Omi' to her grandchildren. She leaves behind her daughter Simone Usselman-Tod (Sandy Tod) and granddaughters Amanda (Mark Laycock) and Katie; daughter Kristina Jackson (Robbie King) and her grandson Liam and granddaughter Savanna; and Hilde’s youngest daughter Fiona Muckle (Brad Pasowysty). Hilde was loved and will be greatly missed by Bob’s children: Karen Grunow-Hårsta (Johan Hårsta) and grandchildren Nickolas and Hanna; Liesa Grunow-Barrett (Christopher Barrett) and grandchildren Katharine and Alexander; Christopher Grunow (Sandra Grunow) and granddaughter Hailey; and by Bob’s youngest daughter Leslie Loyst (Tom Southon) and grandchildren Scott, Jacquie, and Jake. Hilde was born in Teplitz-Schönau, the German Sudetenland (now in the Czech Republic). Toward the end of the second world war, after the American sector was granted to the Czechs and while Hilde’s father was still on the Russian front, Hilde’s mother, in the depth of winter, bravely spirited her three children, Hilde, Roswitha and Othart, to safety in West Germany. Following the end of the war and the return of her father, the family grew to include Hilde’s youngest sister Ulrike and brother Peter. Hilde went on to study engineering/drafting before travelling to Paris and then London, where she met and married Dr. Thomas (TJ) Muckle of Newcastle, and where her three daughters were born. In 1971 the family immigrated to Canada where Hilde began her very successful Real Estate career. In the spring of 1993 Hilde met her ‘Bobby-Lein’ and three years later, they were happily wed. They shared more than twenty wonderful years together. She was the great love of his life. Hilde has left an enormous emptiness in all our hearts. Rest in peace my darling. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family on January 8, 2017 at the Royal Botanical Gardens. A celebration of her remarkable life will be announced in the near future. At that time, all friends and extended family who have been touched by this amazing woman will be welcome.
