Gregor Thomas Robertson

(Gregor) Thomas Robertson - May 28, 1942 - June 26, 2026 It is with great sadness, we share that our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. Tom is survived by his devoted wife Donna, the love of his life for over 65 years. He is also survived by children Dana (Al); Sue (Mike); Greg (Tara); Stephanie (Fred); sister, Judy (Dave); grandchildren: Leah, Jacob (Rachel), Ben, Cameron (Mackenzie), Tommy, Miley and Laney. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and (Gregor) George Robertson, his sister, Sandra Sawdon (Glen) and Baby Lucas. Tommy graduated from Mary David Thompson High School in Scarborough, where he played football, but more importantly, met a beautiful Toronto cheerleader from Danforth Tech. That was when their love story began - Tom and Donna married in 1965. Shortly thereafter, Donna followed Tom to Buffalo, New York, where he played hockey for NYU at Buffalo. Although Tom's main focus was scoring goals for the UB hockey team, he did manage to obtain a Bachelor of Education (returning years later to obtain his Masters of Education). For the next several years, Tom and Donna had four children and both worked incredibly hard to support their family - he as a teacher, she as a nurse. They managed to provide incredible opportunities for their children - camping, canoeing, skiing and of course, hockey. Their kids especially enjoyed traveling with their parents for their dad's hockey tournaments all over Ontario, New York and out West. A huge Montreal Canadians fan, Tom was known for yelling at his T.V. whenever a ref made a bad call against his beloved team. When he became a school principal in Woodstock, Ontario, you would have thought he was the manager of the Montreal Canadians when you walked into his office. Signed posters and paintings of his beloved team and player, No. 10, Guy LaFleur on all walls. After they retired, he and Donna moved to the Peterborough area, where they spent their days exercising at the Wellness Centre (Dad) or shopping at Value Village (Mom). But what Tom loved most was sitting on his property, overlooking the beautiful fields with his beloved sidekicks, first Raider (a chocolate lab) and then Bo (a yellow lab). He always said his black lab, Jake, was the smartest of all three though. In January 2026, Tom left his beautiful home and property forever when his condition worsened. Tremendous thanks go to the truly exceptional staff at Peterborough Health Centre who provided incredible care for the next 6 months. Tom was then moved to AgeCare Samac, in Oshawa, where he could be closer to his children and where his wife would eventually move to. His family is not only forever grateful for the care Tom received there, but also the peaceful and compassionate environment during his transition from this life to the next. There are not enough words to express the love and care the nursing staff, especially the PSW's, had for his family members as well. Tom's wishes were to leave this world without any sort of funeral or celebration - just fond memories of him. But his family wanted to share just how amazing a human being he really was. As a teacher, a vice-principal, a principal and most importantly, as a father, he valued learning and the opportunities it created. Leading my example, not only did he encourage all four of his children to seek post-secondary education, but he guided thousands of children toward success, as an educator for almost 40 years and a coach for many, many sports teams. His legacy lives on in those lives he shaped. He will forever be remembered not only for what he personally achieved, but for how he inspired and supported others to achieve their goals as well. Undoubtedly, he has already exchanged his wings for a hockey stick, and skated into the sunset. As it should be.
