Jean Sparks

On July 9, 2019, W. Jean Sparks passed away peacefully at age 76 after a brief illness. Born March 1, 1944 as the second child in Young (Saskatchewan), her older sister Vivian quickly became her No. 1 protector and caregiver. Siblings Dennis, Ken, Myrna and Debbie followed and they shared many memorable times together. Jean remained close to all her siblings and considered her friendship with them as something very special. Jean was adventurous and ready to fully extend herself to serve Jehovah. In 1963 her pioneer partner Nellie Bochar accompanied her all the way to Peterborough (Ontario) to begin new lives as pioneers. Many new blessings and a host of new spiritual friends provided wonderful new experiences to last a lifetime. It was in 1964 that Robert F. Sparks entered Jean’s life and he literally “dove for her feet”. His prayer was that Jehovah help him find a good wife and faithful friend. He found the perfect answer to his prayer in finding such a marvelous woman. His sense of humor and kind manner quickly won her over. They were engaged in May 1965 and married on October 9, 1965. They have been exceptional compliments to each other ever since and an example to many. Tragically Bob and Jean’s first baby girl, Rachelle, passed away after only two days of life. They both always looked forward to the day when they will be able to raise Rachelle in the promised Paradise to come. Happily, they welcomed Michelle into their world in 1968 and Lara in 1972. In those days, it was usual for women to stay home with their children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Jean was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She didn’t do this out of obligation but because of who she really was. Jean was always there first, ready to help. She was an enthusiastic sewist and kindly gave of her time and talent to sew for others. She also regularly brought food and cakes to the homes of many friends, as she was an avid cook and baker! She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy and happy. Many considered Jean their second mother. Jean is survived by her husband Robert, daughters Michelle and Lara, her grandson Corbin and all her cherished siblings. On the last week of her life, her humor and positivity remained intact, as her faith remained confident that Jehovah will loyally remember her in the resurrection and unite her soon in the coming Paradise with family and friends. “You will call, and I will answer you.
