Joyce Blanche Roxborough

JOYCE BLANCHE ROXBOROUGH (née TALBOT) (June 8, 1941 - May 2, 2024). Surrounded by her children, Joyce passed from us on May 2, 2024 after a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband David, she is survived and greatly missed by her children Gordon, Harold, John, David, and Dian. Joyce was born on June 8, 1941 to Harold and Gwen Talbot and was a sister to Gwen, Marion, Doris, Francis, Jeannie, Gail and Frankie, and a loving grandmother to James, William, Liam, Xander, Brandon, Sarah, and Nicole. Joyce was sweet-natured. She enjoyed simple things--puttering about in the garden and sitting in the backyard enjoying the sun, weather, and visits from little animals; chats with her family, with neighbours and strangers, casual meetings and shared stories; decorating for holidays, acquiring little objects for display, scratching her tickets, going on her routine trips to her favourite stores. She had an openness that meant she took the lives of even acquaintances seriously and had an amazing memory for the small details mentioned to her. She was compassionate. She remembered. And she always made an effort to communicate this love and attention--never criticizing, always willing to see the good in others. Joyce's laughter was a blessing--it was infectious and often took you by surprise, revealing her mischievous side. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, but also a best friend to many, especially her children. The void Joyce's passing creates is immeasurable to those lucky enough to have known her. Joyce touched the lives of so many children over the years as a caregiver, many of whom grew up from infancy under her care and support. Her gentle consideration, guidance, and protection was natural. She was genuinely loving and caring, selfless and understanding, and these qualities no doubt remain clear in the memories of the kids she nurtured. She was an important, benevolent figure at a crucial time. For all of her life, Joyce worked hard. She worked to create a clean and welcoming home environment for her family and to support her network of family, friends, and acquaintances. No matter how she was feeling, she always volunteered to help. She was determined, strong, and sometimes stubborn, and she always thought of herself last. Even in times of struggle, she shrugged and smiled her beautiful smile, always having faith in the new day. She gave and shared everything she had and got on with things. She was and is a beautiful soul. Thanks to those at Ajax-Pickering Hospital who were kind and efficient during their brief time with Joyce.
