Stephanie McKay

Peacefully at Providence Healthcare in Toronto on July 25, 2026, Stephanie McKay left us in her 92nd year. Frances Stephanie McKay (née Griffin) was born in Toronto on July 4, 1935 and lived her entire life in Toronto, a place she loved. Stephanie was the daughter of Francis and Isobel Griffin and the younger sister to Barbara, all previously deceased. Stephanie attended Moulton College at Bloor and Park Road. After graduating from high school, Stephanie began to study nursing but later changed her focus and completed a business school program. As a teenager, she worked at Eaton’s selling gloves. The first few years of her career Stephanie spent at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) before switching to the Bank of Nova Scotia where she worked for over 30 years as an Executive Assistant at the BNS Head office at Scotia Plaza. Outside of work, Stephanie was an active volunteer for many years at Casey House where her warmth and laughter undoubtedly cheered the residents. Stephanie also would volunteer serving special holiday meals at the Good Shepherd Mission. Stephanie loved to travel. She was an avid cruiser, well into her mid-80s, and enjoyed many wonderful adventures including visiting Antarctica, Hawaii and Australia. A participant at Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (MCCT) for almost 50 years, and a member for most of that time, Stephanie’s special gift was her warmth and welcoming nature. She was often one of the first people that newcomers to MCCT would meet when they arrived. In another part of her church life, Stephanie actively participated in a MCCT Care Group for over 30 years. Her laughter will be missed by the Care Group members. Stephanie was also a long-term member of the MCCT Altar Guild and Signing Ministries. Stephanie gave her love to her two dogs: Houston and Georgia. Houston was undoubtedly waiting to greet Stephanie as she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on her journey home to him. A special thanks to the teams at Venvi/Amica Guildwood, Scarborough Health Network and Providence Healthcare Toronto for their care and support for Stephanie over the past 4 years. Stephanie is survived by her nephew Guy and family as well as her many friends and family of choice at MCC Toronto. Sleep well, dear Stephanie. A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held at Metropolitan Community Church on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 2 p.m. Stephanie’s service will be webcast on MCC Toronto’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@MCCTorontoTV), if you are unable to attend in person. In honour of Stephanie’s life, donations may be made to Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto or Hopeful Tails Dog Rescue of Toronto.
