Our beloved mother, mum, momma, momma bear ~ Betty Joanne Holgate, left us in grand fashion over a lavishly set dinner table unexpectedly on Sunday, March 22nd 2020. We have great comfort and peace knowing she passed in the company of her dear friends. A James Bond Girl in her prime, a fashion virtuoso that gave Imelda Marcos a run for her money, our mother was the most beautiful, selfless soul you’d have the fortune to know. Highly intelligent, equipped with a wicked sense of humor, mum was endlessly entertaining to be around. Her beautiful smile could fix nearly anything, her wheezing laughter contagious, and armed with playful devilish glances she always got her rouse. Though we feel it is too soon, mum always said, “When your ticket’s punched, it’s punched. Put me in a Chock full o'Nuts coffee can but don’t hang on to me long. And if I ever make it into a wheel chair, roll me to the top of a cliff, take off the break, and let me decide which way I roll!” Let’s just say you might want to pass on the coffee at our house for the next little while. Daughter of Thomas and Grace Best, she is survived by her children Asa Holgate (son) and Amber Holgate (daughter); her siblings Barb Best (sister) Bill Best (brother) Kelly Best (sister-in-law); and her nieces and nephews; Matt, Linsey, Letitia, Shawna, Crystal, Sylvain, and Geoff; and by her loving friends Greg Peterson, Pierre Nadeau, Susan Karlau, and Shawn Turner. In lieu of flowers please perform a kind act for a stranger, give a genuine smile to a passerby, put positive vibes out into the universe, or make a small donation to your local animal shelter.
