Elaine Antoinette Loxton passed away peacefully at Bendale Acres Long Term Care Home in Toronto on November 23rd 2018 in her 90th year after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Kenya and grew up in Cape Town South Africa where she participated in ballet and Scottish dancing. She came to Canada over 50 years ago and quickly embraced Canadian life and became a dare devil skier winning a gold medal in her first week in ski school, and later in life was an avid golfer. Her working days were in office work first at Uniroyal Tire Corp then later at St Michael Hospital from which she retired. Before her arthritis got too bad she was an accomplished knitter and sewer which provided her with income between jobs knitting fancy sweaters for stores. She also made baptismal garments and did other sewing for her church which was a big part of her life. She was a long time active member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Franciscan’s Parish in which she was a member of the Catholic Woman’s League, Secular Franciscans and an enthusiastic supporter of Dr. Simone’s Canadian Food for Children. She was also a great supporter of many other charities doing volunteer work for such as Toronto’s Out of the Cold, Toronto’s food bank, St. Michael Hospital’s Chaplaincy . She was a very generous person and supported many other charities with her financial donations and especially loved sponsoring children through third world charities She loved children, animals, cottage life, and travelling, usually taking at least one foreign vacation a year. She will be sadly missed by her many friends especially her long time close friend Donald Smith. Her funeral mass will be held at St Bonaventure Church 1300 Leslie St on December 8th 2018 at 10:30 am reception in the Francis Room to follow mass. Interment on a later date at St. John’s Norway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish donations may be made in Elaine’s memory to Canadian Food for Children 1258 Lakeshore Rd East Mississauga Ont. L5E 1E9.
