Ian Reid Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ian Reid. Ian valiantly battled Parkinson’s for many years, with rapid decline in the last few months, when he succumbed to his illness on January 23, 2022 at Michael Garron hospital. Ian was born in 1939 in Derbyshire, England. He emigrated to Canada in 1957 where he first settled in Montreal. With his gifted voice and a natural talent for playing the guitar, he formed his own band and quickly secured a spot on Montreal radio. However, his main career path took him to his studies in Respiratory Therapy, where he played a significant role as one of the founding members of the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists in 1964 (known initially as the Canadian Society for Inhalation Therapists). He went on to be elected as the fifth President of the CSRT from 1974-75, and continued with driving the growth and development of the profession at national and provincial levels. His dedication to the profession was recognized with an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the CSRT and a Lifetime Membership Award from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario. Ian is survived by his life-partner Ingrid Megow, his sons Dan, Morgan and Andrew (Drew), his sister Julie and brother Garth, step-daughter Kirsten, nephews Chris and Mike, niece Ann, and grandchildren Jade, Izzy, Jake, Owen and Moss, and will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Cremation has taken place and the family will make arrangements for a Celebration of Ian's Life at a later time.
