Roberta Adeline Mitchell died peacefully in her sleep, three days short of her 84th birthday, on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born to Robert and Adeline Mitchell in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and lived in Toronto for most of her life. Roberta had numerous vocations in her life; teacher, salesperson, and a bookkeeper, but her most fulfilling job was being a mother, grandmother, and finally a great-grandmother.Two of the things that she was very involved with while her children were growing upwere Girl Guides of Canada and politics, especially campaigning for Pierre Trudeau. She loved spending time at her cottage and everyone has wonderful memories of being there with her. Roberta was a vivacious reader (To Kill a Mockingbird was her favourite book) and there was rarely a crossword puzzle she couldn’t complete, a Jeopardy or Trivia question that she couldn’t answer, a Scrabble word (real or imagined) that she couldn’t come up with. Roberta also loveda cup of tea, turtle chocolates, college basketball, Nascar Racing, and travelling. A trip to Australia and NewZealand on her own, at the age of 73, was one of the highlights of her life. Roberta is lovingly remembered by her children Debbie, Patt (Bruce), and Kenn, grandchildren, Tim (Lisa), Mark, Megan (Ayana), and Phil (Brittany), and great grandchildren, Emma, Shaylah, Luke, and Nate, as well as extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto in memory of Roberta. Condolences to the family may be made online at www.aftercare.org As per Roberta’s wishes there will be no service. Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.
