Tarmo Heyduck
February 6, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tarmo Heyduck, suddenly on Sunday, February 6th. He will be greatly missed by his brother Raimo, sister Tiina, and his nephews and niece. Tarmo was a long time resident of Jordan, Ontario and for his entire teaching career worked for the District School Board of Niagara, first as a teacher of history and English at Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines, and subsequently as a Special Services Coordinator for the Board. In his spare time, while teaching and well into retirement, Tarmo committed himself to overseeing a correspondence course in creative writing. A truly dedicated educator. He shared many fond memories of his fellow teachers and his students, many of whom he kept in touch with. Tarmo was also very active in and supportive of the Estonian community, be it Estonian summer camp, Toronto caravan festival and his fraternity, Vironia. In the quietude of his cottage retreat and his home in Jordan, Tarmo surrounded himself with books and music, both of which he saw as “food for the soul”. Summers, for as many as 25 years, were spent taking in the wonders of nature on Melon Lake with his beloved dog Tiiko and his many friends and family. Donations in memory of Tarmo can be made to the Estonian Foundation of Canada.
