Therese Lafontaine

October 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Theresa Lafontaine on October 20, 2019 at the age of 97. Born in Grand Anse, NB, on March 13, 1922, the daughter of Napoleon and Leontine Rochon. She was a dedicated mother, raising five children all while she worked for 20 years in the nursing field, gave countless hours to the community through St. Paul’s Kitchen, volunteering for the Auxiliary at Lake Ridge Health Hospital, was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and the Daughters of Isabella. Her greatest joy in life was to help other people. From a very young age my mother as a proficient knitter providing handmade socks and gloves to the soldiers overseas during WWII, tucking little notes inside, thrilled when a soldier would write back. Met her handsome soldier on a train while he was on leave and they were married May 1, 1946. She happily shared her knitting talents with everyone, embarrassed to accept any compensation but took great joy and pride in seeing the appreciation of family and friends who sought out her amazing skills. Theresa is predeceased by her husband Andre, sons Gerald and Rejean. Survived by her children Dianne (Dave), Suzanne and Michael, eight grandchildren Robyn (Shannon), Monique (Scott), Nicholas, Stephanie (Josh), Michelle (Mike), Christopher, Andrea (Casey) and Melanie as well two great grandchildren, Chloe and Hadyn (Robyn and Shannon). Thank you to the staff of Wynfield’s Long Term Care in Oshawa, for all the kindness extended to our mother over the past years, especially during the last few weeks of her life. The family greatly appreciated all the comfort and support during this most difficult time. All family and friends are invited to join in the celebration of Theresa’s life on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019. A mass will be held at St. Joseph of the Worker, 1100 Mary Street North, Oshawa, at 1:00 p.m. followed by internment at Resurrection Cemetery, Whitby, and then gathering for the celebration at 121 Castlebar Crescent, Oshawa. In lieu of flowers, kindly provide a donation to a charity of your choice in her memory.
