Wilfrid Ernest Drury Peters

Wilfrid Ernest Drury Peters peacefully passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital on Thursday 24th February 2022. Born December 22nd 1933 in Montserrat, West Indies he was the devoted and loving husband of Rachel, cherished father of Christopher and beloved brother of Gwendolyn, Winifred Roberts and Cicely (deceased). Ex spouse of Pat Peters and a friend to many. Beloved brother in law of Cheryl Besson, Pat McIntosh (Andrew), Brian Besson (Donna), Ian Besson (Lystra), Janice Besson and Jacqui Gregoire (Gary). Wilfrid fondly known as Wilf graduated from Queen’s Law school in 1962 where he was the second black graduate. A long association with Queen’s University ensued with Wilf serving on the Law Advisory Council (1994 -1999) and the University Council (1995 – 2007). Wilf spent his entire career in the Ontario Civil Service retiring as a senior law officer for the Attorney General and counsel to the Chief Electoral Officer. In 1984 he was awarded the designation Queen’s Counsel. The life and career of Wilf has been documented in the annals of the Osgoode Society. Wilf’s passing has left a deep void, we have lost a husband, father, brother, brother in law and dear friend. He will be missed. No services will take place, as Wilfrid requested, but we do appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
