Catherine Anne McPherson

Catherine (Cathy) Anne McPherson, passed away at 65 years young on June 24th after a courageous battle with cancer. As she always wished to be comfortable at home, her children Stephen and Alysha (Justin) made that happen and were by her side the entire time. She showed every day what it meant to be a mother and best friend to her children. She truly lived for them. Cathy, daughter of the late Norman and Rachel McPherson (nee Gunn) will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her siblings, Norma (Rodney), Donald, her late brother Daniel (Hillie), William, her cousins, extended family and countless friends. After 37 years of dedicated employment at Toronto Hydro, Cathy retired in 2010. She made many great friendships and always enjoyed the retirement lunches, the Credit Union bus trips, dinners and remaining connected with her co-workers. In 2001, Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer and again in 2014 when it metastasized to her bones. She never complained of any pain or sickness, and continued to live life with pride and strength, showing everyone, every day what it means to fight cancer with passion for life. She listened and let doctors guide her to face cancer without any fear, question or hesitation. Hope was never lost and courage led her as she fought this battle for 19 years. Her deep love for cats often made many wonder, if she too, had nine lives. Being a single parent, Cathy worked full-time and dedicated much of her spare time to Stephen’s sports and Alysha’s dancing. Her selflessness and hard work will forever shape the lives of her children and they are so grateful to have been able to take care of her in her time of need. Her relationship with Stephen and Alysha was very special and over the years grew into a beautiful friendship. Cathy had a real green thumb and loved nurturing plants from seed to then flourish in her colourful luscious garden. Her grass was always perfect with no weeds and she took so much pride in her home. She loved to feed the wild birds and even the squirrels; though she didn’t like those pesky creatures. Her quick wit and zest for the simple things in life will always remain close to our hearts. Veranda Bay was her favourite spot to be. Cathy’s positive and bold personality will live on within her children and everyone she was connected to. She will be deeply missed by so many. Cathy will forever remain an inspiration as a warrior at heart, leaving behind a legacy that reminds us to always walk on the sunny side of life and to embrace life’s challenges with a smile. We love you Mommy, you are our angel now. A private funeral will take place on her birthday, July 22, 2020. A celebration of life will take place in what we hope is the near future.
