Christine Macdonald

After a long battle with an illness that didn’t know when to quit, Christine Macdonald passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at her home in Etobicoke. It is with a heavy heart that I write about Christine, my best friend of 54 years! I was only 15 when I met Chris and became the best of friends right from the start. Over the past 54 years that friendship grew. You were not just my best friend anymore, you were family. Later in life we referred to each other as sisters! We have shared our happiest times and saddest times with each other. Shared the laughter and the tears. But oh, the laughter. Did I ever tell you that your sense of humor is ONE of the things I loved the most about you? A memory I cherish is when we shared an apartment together and took the elevator up to the top floor because I wanted to see what kind of carpet was on the floor in the hallway. It was all good, till I decided to push ALL the buttons on the way down so we could look at all the carpets. That is when things went wrong. The elevator started down and after stopping on a few floors, IT BEGAN TO BOUNCE…..down one, up three. We looked at each other and just knew we were gonna die! We knew it had to hit bottom with a mighty CRASH…then I started to laugh, which started Chris laughing, and we thought well at least we are going out laughing. Fortunately, the elevator finally stopped, and the door opened, and we got OFF! The Debbie and Chris escapades continued with a trip to the Falls one weekend. We went out to a club one night and at closing time we were leaving I said, “we are so close to the States, just over the bridge, wanna go”? You were reluctant but ended up agreeing to go, so off we went over the bridge. We got to Buffalo and kept going till we had seen enough, looked around and said “uh oh, where’s the bridge? Drove around looking for it until we were hopelessly lost. Then, up ahead there was a bunch of guys hanging around a street corner. I said, “hey roll down your window and ask those guys how to get back to the bridge”. You said, “HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND!” “LOCK THE DOORS AND STEP ON IT”. YOU were always the sensible one! Well, we drove on and on, through towns and ended up on a dirt road, stuck in mud. And if that wasn’t bad enough, we were driving on fumes…..NO GAS! We eventually made it back safely 😊 Then there was this time that we were coming back from the trailer, and it had started to rain like we had never seen before. I have no idea how I drove through it; it was coming down so heavily, the streets soon looked like rivers. When we got home, we discovered we had just driven through a TORNADO. You told me that you were convinced that I was trying to kill you. But in your heart, you knew I loved you……………we were kind of like partners in crime. We’ve been friends for so long, I can’t remember which one of us is the bad influence. But I’m guessing it’s me. I LOVE YOU AND I MISS YOU CHRIS!
