Mr. David Millar

Born April 12, 1947 in Hamilton, ON. Passed sweetly into Spirit on May 2, 2014, from Toronto East General Hospital. Survived and deeply missed by his loving wife, caregiver, and best friend of 26 years, Heather Brown. Also survived and sadly missed by brother Paul (Joan Hodge), Aunt Shirley Stretton and many Millar and Millar-Jewett, Brown & Rigby nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Art and Ruth (Stretton) and 5 siblings: Barrie, Bryan (Francesca), Michael, Wendy Sugden (Bob) and Robin (Fiona). David attended Waterloo University and received Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Architecture. Worked in architecture for 18 years at various firms in Toronto including Ron Thom, Nichol and Johnson, Kirshenblatt Korman and Larry Glazier Architect. Studied Facilities Management at Ryerson University. Worked at the City of Toronto, Facilities and Real Estate Department, for the last 14 years of his career. David was ordained a minister in the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA) in May 1988. Had a rich and active spiritual life, which fueled his pleasant nature. Held weekly MSIA seminars in his home with Heather for 21 years. Also facilitated classes for Peace Theological Seminary ("PTS" the education branch of MSIA). Mentored for One on One (school age children) mentoring program through the City of Toronto for over 5 years. Lived with a rare brain disease, frontal-temporal degeneration, for the last 5 years of his life. Dave loved working, computers, CAD (computer aided drafting), music of all kinds, bicycling, walking, canoeing and holidays in Algonquin Park. Special thanks for all the support over the past 3 years to his friend Bob Newans, his brother Paul, his in-laws Barbara and Richard Rigby, his Toronto MSIA buddies, Toronto Central Community Access Center and Sharin Nanji, Toronto Home caregivers: Faithlin, Chico, Saedia, Elethia, Lily, Rosa and Dion; VHA caregivers Kristine and Shakila; private caregivers Kristine and Gladys;Toronto Hospice and his Toronto Hospice volunteers Aashiq, Adiodata and his creative art volunteer Jennifer; the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto for education and caregiver support, nurse Alexi, the caring staff at Alexis Lodge Retirement Residence, 3rd floor staff at Main Street Terrace, and the excellent team at Toronto East General Hospital (acute ward 3A). All who knew David are invited to a Memorial Celebration of his life on May 31, 2014 at 2 pm at St. Johns Norway Church, Woodbine Ave. north of Kingston Road.
