Mr. Horst Preissler

Horst Preissler, 75, of Burlington, Ontario, beloved husband and best friend of Brunhilde (Peshara) Preissler for 52 years passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 13th 2013. He is survived by his daughter Rhonda; his son Erik and his wife Monique and his beautiful grandson Nico; his sister Brigitte Friedrich and her husband Leo; and his baby sister Christine Cole and her husband Jeff Cole and their three children Scott, Patrick and Sarah; as well as numerous friends and relatives here in Canada, Germany and England. He was pre-deceased by his father Hans Emil Preissler and his mother Louise (Hunger) Preissler Horst was born in a small village in East Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956. He worked in a number of retail stores, had his own store design company and later also worked for a couple of large store fixture companies. Horst loved to build beautiful stores that made not only his clients happy, but was something he was proud of. He also used his creative skills to build his wonderful home and two spectacular cottages. Horst loved nature and was always in his element when he could be outside at the cottage with his family and friends sitting in front of a roaring fire admiring the stars… with a cognac and cigar in hand. He was also an avid fisherman and am sure he is already catching his speckled trout in heaven. But most of all, Horst was the most straight-forward, larger-than-life loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend that most of us will ever have the honour of knowing. His contagious, big-belly laugh will remain with all of us who ever knew him. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Sunnybrook C2 Oncology and K1E Palliative Care Units. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last 2 months were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him and for his perfectly orchestrated last dying moments. A memorial service will be held honoring Horst on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 1:30pm at the Burlington Arts Centre at 1333 Lakeshore Road in Burlington in the Shoreline Room (http://www.thebac.ca/get-to-know-us/location-and-driving-directions/). Pastor Charles Dechert will officiate the service which will be followed by a reception with light snacks and drinks. We welcome all friends and family to join in the celebration of Horst’s life. His cremated remains will be taken to his cottage at Raven Lake for a private family ceremony in the Spring.
