Stevan Ciric

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Stevan Ciric. Stevan was born in Toronto on February 28,1961, and died peacefully on October 11, 2022, at the age of 61. He was the adored father of Madeleine, 13 years, and Skyler,15 years; dearest husband of Lesa Mulherin; loving son of Margaret Ciric; brother to Kathy Jay and Debbie Ciric; and a deeply valued colleague and friend to many. Stevan was a highly intelligent, deep thinker who greatly valued education. He started as an officer training in the navy before obtaining his undergraduate degree at Carleton University. He went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Divinity from the Washington Theological Union in Washington D.C. while living at the Paulist Novitiate in Pennsylvania. When he came back to Toronto, he continued his education at the University of Yorkville, completing his Master’s in Counselling Psychology. These studies led Stevan to a rich career including administering to the homeless and at risk youth as a social worker, running his private practice, providing counselling to staff and the dying in palliative care units in Toronto, and then landing at George Brown College in 2002 where for 20 years he was a member of faculty and administration. He taught social sciences, religion, politics, history and communications. He was a passionate and humourous professor who connected strongly with his students – as evidenced by the NISOD Excellence Award he received in 2008. He went on to serve as a Student Success Specialist in 2009, before becoming Chair of the School of Health & Wellness and the School of Health Services Management in 2011. He was very proud of his work at George Brown College, and it was extremely fitting that he spent the majority of his professional career working in the field of education which he held in such high regard. Stevan was humble and did not consider himself a person of great influence. He likely did not know the tremendous impact he had on others or how many lives he enriched. He had enormous compassion and felt things profoundly, touching hearts in moments large and small. He provided support with everything from helping others advance their careers to spontaneously giving his winter gloves to those less fortunate that he met on the street. Stevan lived to make his family laugh. He was full of surprises and big bear hugs. His world revolved around Maddie and Skyler, and nothing made him happier than to spend time with them and to support and celebrate their journey to discovering their true selves. He went to great lengths to create wonderful experiences, building the ideal rustic campsite in Haliburton Forest and then finding just the right cottage by a lake. He planned some spectacular vacations, brought pets into the home, spent evenings enjoying favourite family tv programs, stocked too many desserts in the kitchen, and was always there to listen. We were blessed to have had him in our lives. We’ll miss him dearly and hold close the countless beautiful memories we have of him. We ask that you join us in the Celebration of Life for Stevan on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Location: St. Joseph’s Parish on 162 Leslie Street, Leslieville, Toronto Parking: Street parking only. Note: Please do not park in any parking lots adjacent to the church – they are reserved for the apartment building. Social gathering details: Please join us in the church hall immediately following the service. The entrance is located outside around the back of the church, at 65 Curzon St. We invite you to share any stories you might have about Stevan in celebration. There will be a microphone set up. We will be offering coffee, tea and doughnuts (Stevan’s favourite). You are also very welcome to bring food to share.
