OUR COMMITMENT

At Aftercare Cremation & Burial Service we have always taken privacy matters very seriously. We understand that we are responsible for all personal information in our possession. Our staff have been trained and made aware of the importance of maintaining the security and confidentiality of personal information. In accordance with the federal Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act, January 1, 2004 we have developed the following privacy policy.

PURPOSES

We collect personal information in order to provide funeral services to our client families. The personal information we collect is needed to identify clients and to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements. During the course of our duties personal information may also be collected to provide information to members of your religious organization, cemeteries/crematoria, airlines and memorial societies. We only collect personal information that is required for a specific purpose.

PRIVACY PRACTICES

We will obtain written consent from the person responsible for making funeral arrangements. Personal information will not be used or disclosed for any purpose other than for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. We need to retain accurate personal information to ensure that we can answer any questions our client families may have and to meet legal requirements as outlined by our regulatory body (The Board of Funeral Services). This personal information will be kept for a minimum of ten years. All personal information will be destroyed or erased as soon as the purpose for which it was collected is no longer relevant, or as permitted by law. Personal information that we collect and provide to third parties will be done so in the most accurate manner possible. We do not routinely update personal information except where changes have been made by client families to funeral prearrangement/prepayment files.

We have security safeguards in place to protect personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Our personal information is stored in private offices and computers that are password protected.

CONTACT INFORMATION

We are open about our policies and practices regarding the management of personal information. Our client families have the right to view personal information we have on file. Any questions, concerns or complaints should be directed to our information officer, Douglas McCann by mail, telephone or email.
